European Commission considers that Romania has not taken appropriate steps to protect citizens from fine particles pollution

European Commission considers that Romania has not taken appropriate steps to protect citizens from fine particles pollution. These fine particles, which come from emissions generated from industry, traffic and domestic heating, can cause asthma, cardiovascular problems, lung cancer and premature death. In accordance with European legislation, member states are required to limit the exposure of their citizens to such particles. Citizens in Bucharest, Brasov and Iasi were exposed, almost continuously since 2007, to unhealthy levels of pollution with these particles, according to reports made in 2012. European Commission asks Romania to ensure that the period of non-compliance should be as short as possible. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
