365,000 Americans are of Romanian origin, but the actual number could exceed one million

Fourth of July is the National Day of the United States of America, known as the Independence Day. Romanian presence on the North American continent was felt around 1895. Now, our community in the United States is, by the American standards, an ethnic group of medium-sized. Over 365,000 Americans have said they are of Romanian origin at the census conducted 14 years ago, but their number could exceed one million. Stelian Plesoiu, Romanian community's coordinator in Chicago, said that there are over 100,000 Romanians in this city, adding that there is, also, a Romanian consulate in Chicago. "We have seven young Romanian teachers", said Stelian Plesoiu, "the Department of Mathematics is led by Romanians, Department of Physics, we have Romanians at Philosophy and we have Romanians at the Faculty of Foreign Languages. It is impressive to have in America from a country so small, Romania, or from such a small community, seven teachers at the University of Chicago". (RADIO ROMANIA reports.
