By the end of this decade Romania will produce more electricity than it consumes so that by 2020 the country will achieve energy independence, Minister Delegate for Energy, Razvan Nicolesc, has said and added that the state should encourage the heat produced from electricity. The Minister has pointed out that the listing of Electrica Company was successful, the stock market was encouraged, and the business could become a model of corporate governance as the shareholders will appoint a new Board of Directors. The second largest shareholder in the company after the Romanian state is EBRD whish has invested 75 million euros in shares, followed by the ING Group.
The minimum wage reaches 900 lei
From July 1st, 2014, the gross national minimum wage will increase from 850 lei, as it was in the first half of the year, to 900 lei, and this is the second increase this year. Thus the minimum wage will be 202 euros in 2014, compared with 180 euros last year, while in 2004, the minimum wage was 86 euros.
Number of unemployed reached almost 720,000 in May
The number of unemployed in May reached almost 720,000 persons, over 15 thousand more than in the previous month – National Institute of Statistics has announced. Violinist Alexandru Tomescu will be awarded the Star of Italy with the rank of knight
The Romanian violinist Alexandru Tomescu, soloist of the National Radio Orchestra, will be awarded the Star of Italy Order with the in the rank of knight, for outstanding achievements in the promotion of Italian culture. The distinction will be awarded by the Italian ambassador in Bucharest, Diego Brassioli, in a concert that will be hosted tomorrow by the Romanian Athenaeum. The event marks the Italian presidency of the European Union. With an impressive career on four continents and over 30 countries, Alexandru Tomescu, 38, clearly stand out as the leader of the younger generation of Romanian violinists. He has been awarded more than 100 national and international awards. For his exceptional performance, the Romanian state granted him the privilege of playing a Stradivarius violin that had been, previously, in the possession of the famous Romanian violinist musician Ion Voicu.
