Chief of Romanian PM's Office before DNA

The head of Romania's Prime Minister Office appeared before prosecutors of the country's National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) on Wednesday, RADIO ROMANIA reported. Vlad Stoica appeared as witness in the case of Adrian Duicu, the head of the Mehedinți County Council in south-western Romania, accused of influence peddling, judicial sources said. Mr. Duicu claimed that it was Vlad Stoica who was "the big boss" he was talking about during cellphone conversations with his accomplice. Prime Minister Victor Ponta said he never met the former Mehedinți chief while Mr. Duicu's potential changes among police staff were never discussed. Sources say Mr. Duicu thought his position allowed him to introduce such changes.

DNA chief sues Antena 3 TV

The head of Romania's National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) said she was suing Antena 3 television channel and some of its journalists following their recent allegations against her. According to reports, Antena 3 journalists include Mihai Gâdea, Mugur Ciuvică and Radu Tudor. DNA chief Laura Codruța Kövesi accused Antena 3 of reporting lies which badly affected her image and dignity, RADIO ROMANIA reported on Wednesday. Ms. Kövesi is expected to claim damages of 250,000 euros though she pointed out she would spend the money for humanitarian purposes. The DNA chief is also expected to make a complaint before the country's National Audiovisual Council (CNA) against the Antena 3 programme of "Sinteza zilei" (Today's Synthesis) for breaching CNA rules.

Ioan Rus expected to become Romania's new transport minister

Procedures are under way concerning the appointment of Ioan Rus as Romania's new transport minister, RADIO ROMANIA reported on Wednesday. Mr. Rus is expected to replace Dan Șova who resigned on Tuesday for other assignments ahead the campaign for the presidential elections scheduled later this fall. Prime Minister Victor Ponta said he expected President Traian Băsescu to approve the move as he had nothing against Mr. Rus. "I discussed the issue on Monday when the president admitted it was a PM's right to do so, and he had nothing against it. I believe procedures ended by now. However, I will check", Mr. Ponta said.

RRA's "Metamorphosis" wins NYF Radio Awards' Silver Trophy

"The Methamorphosis", a programme of SRR's Theatre Department, was awarded the Silver Radio Trophy at the New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards ceremony on Tuesday. The Romanian production won the trophy as part of the Best Drama Special category which also included a US radio programme with UK's BBC as Gold Radio winner. The prize confirms "The Metamorphosis" recent success at the Nova Radio Theatre International Festival in Bucharest last week when the play got the festival's Gold Medal, RADIO ROMANIA reported.
