Prime Minister Victor Ponta files a complaint against President Traian Basescu at the Constitutional Court

The Prime Minister Victor Ponta has filed a complaint against President Traian Basescu at the Constitutional Court for not letting him to represent Romania at the European Council. The Head of the Government has asked the magistrates of the court to acknowledge the existence of a constitutional legal conflict which stems from the fact that the Head of State "is assuming duties and competences" that belong to the Government. Yesterday, President Traian Basescu announced that he would represent Romania at the European Council by the end of the month, because he wants to sign himself the free trade and association agreement of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, after years of efforts made in this regard. It is for the second time that the Constitutional Court is asked to rule on the representation to the European Council.

The Senate has passed the Government's draft of cutting down Social Insurance Contribution by 5 percentage points

The Government’ draft to cut down Social Insurance Contribution by 5 percentage points at the employer has been passed some time ago by a large majority of senators. The document has received 109 votes for and only one abstention. The Senate Deputy Speaker, Cristian Dumitrescu, who has lead the plenary session today, has announced that the draft will be sent immediately to the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision making body in this case.

'Vier Pfoten' Foundation demands ceasing the killing of stray dogs

The Foundation for the Protection of Animals, 'Vier Pfoten', asks the Authority for the Supervision and Protection of Animals and the local authorities, generally, to cease killing stray dogs. The organization warns, in a press release, that otherwise, those who are guilty will be held responsible. The Court of Appeal decided yesterday to suspend the euthanasia of stray dogs.
