RADOR News Agency was born on June 16, 1921 as an initiative of two old friends - diplomat Noti Constantinide, a secretary of the Romanian diplomatic mission in Paris, and lawyer Sorin Șerbescu, a PhD student of the French University of Sorbonne.
RADOR is a short name of Radio Orient and it was born as a private agency under the financial support of Chrissoloveni Bank.RADOR became an official agency after its shares went to the Romanian state in 1925. Consequently, RADOR became part of the network including such world press giants as Havas and Reuters, Correspondenz Bureau in Vienna and other national agencies.
Its closure was ordered by Communists in 1949 when its operations went to the newly created Agerpres national agency. The new RADOR was born in 1990 as a department of RADIO ROMANIA (the current Romanian Broadcasting Corporation - SRR). An Information and Syntheses Centre (CIS) was then created following an initiative of the late SRR President-Director general Eugen Preda inspired by the BBC Monitoring Centre at Caversham. Its management went to Mihai Andrei as editor-in-chief and Ileana Ionescu as his deputy.
RADOR became a press agency three years later, in 1993, as part of the SRR's so-called Radio Observator. Its daily operations imply hourly monitoring of more than 50 radio broadcasts and television channels, hundreds of international newspapers and more than 60,000 web sources. Behind all these there is a professional and highly dedicated team.We thank you for choosing RADOR and we assure you of all our gratitude and our highest consideration!
