NATO will not open new military bases in Romania

NATO will not open new military bases in Romania in connection with the crisis in Ukraine, The announcement was made after the Republican Senator John McCain (Arizona), the Republican Senator Ron Johnson (Wisconsin) and the Democrat Senator Chris Murphy (Connecticut) ended their visit to Bucharest. The U.S. senators reiterated the need to strengthen military presence at the eastern borders of the Alliance in the aftermath of the Ukrainian crisis, but did not support the idea of opening a permanent military base in Romania.

Representatives of Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) and National Liberal Party (PNL) continue negotiations on merger project

The representatives of PDL and PNL continue negotiations in specialized committees on the project of their merging. The Liberal Vice-President Sorin Frunzăverde said that lawyers were dealing with the documents necessary for establishing the new party. By the end of the week, the PDL and PNL representatives will meet to determine which will be the new majority in the county councils. The Liberals and Liberal Democrats participate, today, in discussions with the IMF, in a joint delegation headed by the two Presidents, Vasile Blaga and Klaus Johannis.

Estimates of the National Institute of Statistics

Romania's exports have reached almost 17 billion euros in the first four months of this year, according to the estimates by the National Institute of Statistics published today. In contrast, imports represented nearly 19 billion euros. Thus, Romania's trade deficit was nearly 2 billion euros, over 71 million euros higher than in the first quarter of last year. On the other hand, the turnover in industry has increased by 11.6 percent in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period in 2013, due to businesses mainly in the energy industry. Thus, during that period there was an increase of turnover in almost all sectors.

"Romanian Energy Day" Conference in Brussels

The conference entitled 'Romanian Energy Day' is organized in Brussels today by the Romanian Energy Center in the Belgian capital city. The topics discussed are: the energy potential of Romania, the energy infrastructure, Romania as an energy pole in the EU, alternative sources of energy. The conference has as guests representatives of the European Commission, the largest energy companies in Romania and from the Energy Ministry, the State Secretary Karoly Borbely.
