Convergence Report published by the European Commission

Romania does not fulfill all the criteria for joining the euro area - is shown in the Convergence Report published yesterday by the European Commission. The report assesses the state of preparedness for eight member states in view of the adoption of the single currency starting January 1st, 2015 and notes that the progresses are uneven. Lithuania stands out from the group, fulfilling the convergence criteria. Romania has met the requirements on public finances and long-term interest rates, but not those of price stability and exchange rate. According to the European Union Treaty, every two years, or at the request of a member state wishing to join the euro area, the European Commission examines the fulfillment of conditions necessary for adopting the single currency.
