Klaus Johannis is the interim President of the National Liberal Party. The decision comes after Crin Antonescu announced, on Saturday, that he gave up both the position of interim leader, as well as his candidacy for President of Romania. The National Liberal Party leadership resigned a week ago, after poor results in the European elections on 25 May.

Democratic Liberal Party and National Liberal Party reaffirm desire to merge

The Liberals and Liberal Democrats have reaffirmed their desire to achieve as soon as a merger between the two parties, but also to name a common candidate for the presidential election. Starting today, the two parties will cooperate in the Parliament and in the territory. Representatives of both parties will work in joint committees for drafting the document which will be the base for the new right-wing party. The two parties are determined to work together to identify a common candidate in the presidential elections no later than August 1st , the Liberal leader, Klaus Johannis has said.

The evaluation mission on preemptive loan agreement continues in Bucharest with discussions between representatives of the international lending institutions and the Ministry of Finance. Minister Ioana Petrescu said, the other day, that there would be analyzed several scenarios to reduce, from July 1st, by 5 percent the social security contributions, not based on broadening the tax base, but rather due to the evolution of payments to the budget.

The new package of healthcare services considers preventive care

The new healthcare package which came into force yesterday is based on prevention. Patients up to 39 years old will have go to the family doctor at least every three years and those over 40 will see the GP annually. The novelties of the basic healthcare package are: preventive health services, reimbursement for therapies used in treating children with autism, some dental treatments and patient priority referral to practitioners and outpatient services, and reimbursement of two series of ten sessions of acupuncture per year. The risk of mental health and reproductive health will be assessed. According to the basic package of healthcare services, 300 diagnoses will no longer be treated in hospitals, but in clinics.
