Final results of Romania's EU elections expected

Romania's Central Election Bureau (BEC) is expected to decide the number of EU parliamentary mandates for each political alliance, party or independent candidate who exceeded the 5 percent margin allowing them to join the new European Parliament. Final results are expected on Thursday, RADIO ROMANIA reported. Most parties including the opposition Liberal Democratic Party (PD-L), People's Movement party (PMP) and Dan Diaconescu People's Party (PPDD) claimed that lots of voters expressed their vote on additional electoral lists. However, BEC rejected all the complaints calling for an election re-run.

PNL - PD-L talks

Romania's main centre-right wing parties, the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) will start talks concerning their future co-operation before the upcoming presidential elections later this year. PD-L leaders already expressed the hope for a long term co-operation with the PNL as they believed the two parties should support a single presidential candidate. Romania needed a single major right-wing party, PD-L leader Vasile Blaga claimed after a meeting of the party's National Permanent Bureau on Wednesday. "We already experienced a co-operation with the PNL and, in my opinion, we could agree on the matter as quickly as possible. We are open, and we support a short, medium and long term co-operation in the next local and general elections in 2016", Mr. Blaga said as quoted by RADIO ROMANIA.

Fate of Romanian Senator Marius Isăilă still under question

A legal committee in the Romanian Senate failed to make a decision concerning the preventive arrest of Marius Isăilă, a senator under investigation for his alleged involvement in a corruption-related case. Mr. Isăilă is accused of influence peddling and forged documents under private signature. A decision into the case is currently posponed as five senators voted against the ruling while the other five expressed their support, RADIO ROMANIA reported on Wednesday. Therefore, the request put forward by the country's Justice Ministry should come under debate at a Senate plenum.
