Romania is an ally and a reliable partner for the U.S., but it needs to strengthen the rule of law and fight, further on, against corruption, these were the messages for the Romanian authorities by the U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, who ended, yesterday, a two-day visit in this country. The high American official spoke, also, about the tensions in the region, generated by the situation in Ukraine and promised that the U.S. would protect its NATO allies against any aggression. Mr Biden said that Romania's infrastructure could be a launching platform for the energy market from the Black Sea to central and western Europe, and pointed out the need for an interconnected energy market.
Payment period of the so-called ‘pole tax’ expires at the end of the weekThe payment period of the so-called ‘pole tax’ by the businesses expires at the end of the week. The Government introduced the tax in November, and approved the implementing rules two days ago. The representatives of the investors claim that they have not clarified the situation. In addition, they point out that in its current form the tax will have a negative social impact. The investors require the removal of the tax or at least a tax rate reduction from 1.5 percent to 0.5 percent. The ‘pole tax’ means tax on special constructions that were previously exempted, and it must be paid by all legal persons, and not by the public institutions and research institutes of national interest.
Reading Marathon celebrating 100 years since the beginning of World War IThe RADOR News Agency, belonging to the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company, organizes, today, a reading marathon to commemorate the 100 anniversary of the beginning of WWI. 60 students from "Gheorghe Lazar" National College, the Central School and Breaza Military School will read, in French, emotional letters sent by army officers in the First World War. The marathon can be watched live on the website www.rador.ro. The event "Letters from the War" is organized in partnership with the Defense Ministry, and supported by the "King Ferdinand" National Military Museum in Bucharest, and will enjoy the participation of 13 commanders of major military units.

For four days, the public will be able to see art works from private collections and those of museums and galleries from Italy, Germany, Austria and Romania.
