American Vice-President Joe Biden will visit Romania, this week

American Vice-President Joe Biden will come to Bucharest, this week, to discuss with President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Victor Ponta, mainly on the crisis in Ukraine. The visit is intended to reaffirm United States support for Romania and for NATO allies in Eastern Europe and the American commitment to act, including by force, in the event that an ally country is attacked. Joe Biden will also discuss with the Romanian authorities on efforts to increase European energy security, about strengthening economic ties and strengthening the rule of law and fighting corruption. President Traian Basescu hopes that the decision on Romania's entry to Schengen Area will be made next month

President Traian Basescu hopes that the decison on Romania's entry to Schengen Area with air and sea borders will be made next month. The President said that in 2015 the entry into the European free movement and with land borders should also happen. The statements were made in the context of a discussion about the Romania's EU integration process. Mister Basescu said that the next steps that our country has to make in the medium term in the perspective of integration are joining the Schengen Area and adoption of the euro. Romanian Government has determined January 1st, 2019 as the target date for adopting the euro and the new convergence program for the period 2014-2017 was submitted to the European Commission. Warning for Romanian citizens traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina

Romanian Foreign Ministry warns its citizens traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina that some roads are blocked due to flooding and landslides, including all access routes to Sarajevo. National roads M-17 and M-18 are impassable on some portions and railway traffic is suspended on several sections. A border point between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina is closed.
