Government will notify the Constitutional Court about the involvement of the President in the election campaign

The Government will notify the Constitutional Court about the involvement of President Traian Basescu in the election campaign. Prime Minister Victor Ponta says that the President has violated the Constitution, again. Notification will be submitted most likely today. Prime Minister's decision to notify, on behalf of the Government, the Constitutional Court comes after footages have presented Mr Basescu expressing his support for one of the parties in the electoral race.

Victor Ciorbea has been sworn in office as Ombudsman

Victor Ciorbea has taken the oath for the office of Ombudsman , in front of the Speakers of the two Chambers of Parliament. Mr Ciorbea : I wish, in the most honest way, that together with the other colleagues in the regional offices and the central institution to be able to form a team of competent and professional people who fulfill their constitutional duties in order to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens in their relations with public authorities. The long political and legal career and experience are the main qualities that recommended Victor Ciorbea for this position . He takes the position of Ombudsman for a term of five years. Victor Ciorbea was validated by the Parliament on April 15th , being proposed by the Social Democratic Party and he was the only candidate for this position . Previously, he was a liberal senator and the Prime Minister of Romania in the 90s .

Government has provided first relief goods to flood victims

The Government has provided residents in the flood stricken areas first relief products such as water, food and blankets. The Government will conduct a detailed analysis of damages inflected in recent days. Prime Minister Victor Ponta has said that the priority is the development of a funding strategy for the works to prevent, in the future, the flooding effects and which will take into account the risk maps finished some time ago.

Chevron began drilling for shale gas exploration in Siliștea Pungesti

Chevron oil company representative in Romania, Thomas Holst, has said in an exclusive interview to Radio Romania News, that exploratory drilling for shale gas exploitation has begun in Siliștea Pungesti, Vaslui county. Drilling involves extracting rock samples which are then analyzed to determine the existence of natural gas and how to extract it. Chevron representative has promised that the company will comply with all the European and Romanian legal obligations, and the groundwater in the area will not be affected and will be constantly monitored.
