USS Taylor frigate heading towards the Black Sea

A second US Navy warship entered the Black Sea on Tuesday to reassure European allies amid current tensions in the region, according to reports on a US Navy website. The USS Taylor, a guided-missile frigate, is actually returning to the Black Sea to replace the guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook which was ordered there earlier this month. Both warships are expected to attend joint training exercises with counterparts in Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, RADIO ROMANIA reported. The Pentagon announced plans to dispatch 600 troops to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. 150 American troops are expected in Poland on Wednesday while other 450 are expected to arrive in the Baltics in the coming days.

Yellow Code warnings in southern Romania

11 counties in southern and south-western Romania are under Yellow Code warnings of heavy rains starting on Wednesday at 8PM (local time), RADIO ROMANIA reported. Lands are expected to receive more than 25-30 liters of rain per square meter in such regions as Oltenia (southern Romania), half of Banat (south-western Romania), northern Valachia and southern Moldova (eastern Romania), according to warnings issued by the country's National Hydrology and River Management Institute (INHGA) a few hours ago. More than 50 liters of water per square meter are expected in some remote areas in the counties of Mehedinți, Gorj, Dolj and Caraș-Severin (southern and south-western Romania). The Yellow Code is valid until Thursday at 11 PM (local time). However, the southern Romanian counties of Teleorman, Giurgiu and Ialomița, already affected by floods and heavy rains in recent days, are not under Yellow Code.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre London to open Romania's International Shakespeare Festival in Craiova

The famous Globe Theatre in London is expected to open the 9th edition of Romania's International Shakespeare Festival in the southern town of Craiova. The world is celebrating the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare's birthday on Wednesday. Theatrical companies on four continents are expected to attend the 12-day event under the slogan "Everybody's Shakespeare". Participants include companies and artists in Britain, Hungary, Russia, China, Ukraine, South Africa, Lithuania, Armenia and Romania, RADIO ROMANIA reported.

A Romanian short at Cannes Film Festival

The Romanian "L1 - L5", a short film directed by Letiția Roșculeț was selected for the "Short Film Corner" section of the Cannes Film Festival 2014. Starring Ana Ularu, the film is about the true story of Mara, a girl forced to reconsider her life in the future following a car crash. "Mara is played by actress Ana Ularu, and I am most happy that she accepted to star in a short. I hope the Romanian audiences will enjoy my "L1 - L5" following its release at Cannes", director Letiția Roșculeț told RADIO ROMANIA.
