Three residential homes of Constantza mayor searched by DNA prosecutors

Prosecutors of Romania's National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) searched three residential homes in the Black Sea port of Constantza on Tuesday. The owner, Constantza mayor Radu Mazăre, is currently under investigation for his alleged involvement in a bribery case, RADIO ROMANIA reported. None of the buildings under search are known as public institutions. Mr. Mazăre is questioned under judicial control following a ruling of the country's highest court last Friday when has been charged with taking a bribe and making false statements. Anticorruption prosecutors claim that Radu Mazăre took 175,000 euros for awarding a company the tender to build low-cost apartments for socially deprived residents in 2011. He allegedly received the money from businessman Avraham Morgenstern who was also under investigation for his involvement in the bribery case.

Flood warnings

Romania's National Hydrology and River Management Institute (INHGA) issued Orange and Yellow Code warnings for five areas before raising all warnings at a Red high. All codes are valid until 6PM (local time). River Neajlov in the Romanian southern county of Giurgiu and such rivers as Călmătzui, Pârâul Câinelui, Vedea, Șabăr and Ialomița in the south of the country are also under Yellow Code. Prime Minister Victor Ponta is on a visit to Teleorman, a county in southern Romania worst hit by heavy rains and flooding in recent days. Some 14 communities in the county are currently under water, according to sources quoted by RADIO ROMANIA.

Dutch businessmen expected to invest in Romania

Representatives of 24 companies in the Netherlands are in Romania for a five day-visit. Holland is for years Romania's biggest foreign investor with investements of more than 7 bn euros. The Dutch delegation is headed by the country's foreign trade minister who is expected to attend talks with Alex Mircea Dascălu, chief executive of the Netherlands Romanian Chamber of Commerce. "Romanian - Dutch exchanges raised by more than 11 percent between 2012 and 2013", Mr. Dascălu said in a statment to RADIO ROMANIA on Tuesday.

Earth Day 2014

Each year, the world is celebrating the Earth Day on April 22. Earth Day appeared in the United States and capitalised on emerging consciousness and putting environmental concerns front and center. In 2009, the United Nations established April 22 as international Earth Day and a symbol of peoples' hopes of a cleaner a greener future. At the same time, Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held annually on last Saturday in March. The north-western town of Satu Mare was declared Romania's Earth Day Capital on March 29, 2014, RADIO ROMANIA reported.
