Romania prepares for European elections

Romania's Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) is expected to draw on Thursday the order of the country's candidates on ballot papers for European elections in May. At a meeting on Wednesday, BEC concluded that only 23 candidates were legally qualified including 8 independent candidates. The election campaign will start on April 25, one month before the date of the European vote. Participating political parties confirmed include an election alliance of governing parties including the Social Democratic Party (PSD), National Union for Romania's Progress (UNPR) and the Conservative Party (PC), the right-wing National Liberal Paerty (PNL). the Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L), Dan Diaconescu People's Party (PPDD), the Popular Movement Party (PMP), Civic Force party, and the Farmers' National Alliance (ANA). As RADIO ROMANIA reports, independent candidates on the list include Pericle Iulian Capsali - a Romanian Orthodox priest, Paul Purea, Peter Costea, Corina Ungureanu, Constantin Filip Tițian, actor Mircea Diaconu, Valentin Dăeanu and Dănuț Liga.

Romanian PM Victor Ponta on board of a F-16 fighter jet

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta is expected to board on a .flight of a US F-16 fighter jet on Thursday. American experts already provided Mr. Ponta with details concerning the plane's facilities. As RADIO ROMANIA reports, the Romanian Prime Minister is currently on a visit to the Romanian Transylvanian town of Câmpia Turzii along with Senate Speaker Călin Popescu Tăriceanu in order to attend a Romanian - American military training exercise involving 200 Romanian troops on MIG-21 planes and some 250 US soldiers on six F-16 fighter jets.

Golden coins discovered at Cenad

Some 800 coins of 24K gold were seized by police at the Romanian western border check point of Cenad in Timiș county The coins were sent to Romania's Treasury for a number of checks. The treasure was found in the car of two Timișoara locals who claimed it belonged to relatives in Austria who asked them to take the coins to Romania. The 11 kilos of coins were marked with an inscription refering to Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph - 1915, RADIO ROMANIA reported.
