Talks between the Speaker of the Romanian Senate and his French counterpart

The Speaker of the Romanian Senate, Călin Popescu Tariceanu , has discussed in Paris with his French counterpart , Jean Pierre Bel, about the support that France can offer for Romania's joining Schengen Area. In an interview for Radio Romania News, Mr Tariceanu has stressed that the best version, at this moment, is the accession of our country in two stages, the first one for the air transit, and the second one regarding the land borders. Mr Tariceanu has also said that the state authorities, in particular the Government of Romania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must intensify efforts for Romania's integration into the Schengen space.

Romania’s minimum wage remains very low compared to other countries in the region

The minimum wage in Romania, although it will increase significantly this year, is still very low compared to other countries in the region, a report by the International Monetary Fund experts indicates, by the end of the first two assessments of the current preventive type loan deal with Romania. IMF representatives are warning that a substantial increase of the minimum wage may have negative effects on the profitability of companies in the private sector, and it may affect the employability of young people, people with low education and those who have work contracts concluded on short term.

Government will make decisions on the privatization of the Romtelecom company and the Romanian Post

The Romanian Government is to decide, by the end of the first half of the year, on the ways of privatizing the Romtelecom company and the Romanian Post. The Communications Minister has said that there has been significat progress. The operational profit of the Romanian Post, in October-November last year, was positive, so there were no losses. He has pointed out that number of employees was reduced, and also the contracts that were damaging to the company, so there is no need to come up with money from the state budget any longer.
